Vegetable tanning is an ancient technique that dates back to the medieval period and developed in Tuscany in the lands located along the Arnò river. The leather is placed in the barrels with water containing tannins (natural dyes, coming from plants and tree bark). To obtain a softer and more flexible leather, the modern tanning technique requires the barrels to rotate and beat for about 48 hours.

Attention! The surface of genuine vegetable tanned leather has irregularities and roughness and in some areas the shades of color can be different. This is not a defect, but it is the characteristic of real leather surface, worked according to ancient Tuscan techniques and vegetable tanned.
